Scientific titlePilot: Two integrated pilot evaluations of a CD-ROM based Multi-Media intervention for carers of young people with anorexia nervosa
Study objectives1. To increase our knowledge of models/components of effective care-giving in eating disorders
2. To study a computerised intervention designed for carers of people with anorexia nervosa
Ethics approval(s)Not provided at time of registration
Health condition(s) or problem(s) studiedMental and Behavioural Disorders: Anorexia nervosa
InterventionA computerised intervention for carers of people with anorexia nervosa has been developed in the SLaM Eating Disorders Unit. This CD-ROM contains 9 interactive modules, which teach carers disease- and self-management skills.

A cohort of carers of people with anorexia nervosa will be offered to access the CD-ROM in the eating disorders clinic over 6 to 8 weeks or to take it home. An assessment of carer and patient variables will be conducted prior to starting the CD-ROM, at 8 weeks and at follow up 2 months later.

A randomised controlled trial will compare Anorexia Nervosa carers recruited via the Eating Disorders Association comparing CD-Rom vs informal support offered via the Eating Disorders Association
