Study objectivesThe principle research question is whether the use of a supplementary computer based numeracy training programme increases numeracy skills among first year nursing students.

InterventionThe intervention is a computer software package known as Authentic World which can be accessed online, participants in the intervention group will be sent details on how to access the computer software and will be able to access the software until the routine end of year numeracy testing. Participants in the control group will receive usual numeracy support. Participants in the intervention and control group will be given reminder information on how to access usual numeracy support from Departmental Staff.

Students score on the end of year numeracy test (VLE) plus six additional questions relating specifically to medication dosage calculations, at 6 months from the beginning of the intervention.
